Since I'm an instructor, I had to take the CCNA exam, so not for that.
But I did get my CCNP certificate, and I never ever took the switching exam.
(I teach all the other core classes, so I did take those individual tests)
If you go to www.cisco.com/go/certifications and look at the discussion
forums, you can search on there and find some relevant material. Or simply
contact the CCIE group or Career Certification group for the low-down. But
you have to have completed the lab exam before it works AFAIK.
