cat6500 hardware clock

Hi, group

    I had been heard the catalyst6000 hasn't hardware
clock, if you set the clock and switch off/on the switch ,
all the time will be reset.
   But I found the ntp update-calendar command on the
switch, from CCO, it said MSFC will update the hardware
calendar with the NTP time.
  I confused. what the function of that command ?
Dose the cat6500 keep hardware clock ?
