You will need to map your clns control-plane traffic.

Subject: ISIS over ATM SVC Classical IP
Hi,
Do you know how to make ISIS work over ATM SVC CIP?
interface ATM0/0/0.469 multipoint
description SVC CIP
ip address 69.69.40.6 255.255.255.0
ip router isis CIP
class-int ATM-class
atm esi-address 121212121262.00
atm arp-server self
!
vc-class atm ATM-class
broadcast
Rack2R6#pi 69.69.40.9
!!!!!
Rack2R6#deb isis adj-packets
IS-IS Adjacency related packets debugging is on Rack2R6# *Jul 22
13:38:48: ISIS-Adj (CIP): Encapsulation failed for L1 LAN IIH on
ATM0/0/0.469 *Jul 22 13:38:56: ISIS-Adj (CIP): Encapsulation failed for
L1 LAN IIH on ATM0/0/0.469
I think I have to map CLNS statically, as CIP is only for IP. Would you
agree?
It works fine:
interface ATM0/0/0.469 multipoint
description SVC CIP
ip address 69.69.40.6 255.255.255.0
ip router isis CIP
atm esi-address 121212121262.00
atm arp-server nsap 47.00000000000000000000000A.121212121292.00
!
svc nsap 47.00000000000000000000000A.121212121292.00
protocol clns 49.1212.1212.1212.1212.1212.1213.0000.0000.0009.00
broadcast
Rack2R6#sh clns ne
Area CIP:
System Id Interface SNPA State Holdtime Type
Protocol
bb1 AT0/0/0.469 VC 109 Up 8 L1
IS-IS
The only concern is that we can get confused on a question like that:
-Configure classical IP. Enable ISIS over it.
the thinking: "they do not want us to statically map IP"..."but that
does not exclude statically map CLNS" :)
