Hi, Chris:
Thanks!
Then, it is something about IOS bugs.
:)

Subject: RE: ATM InARP
I think the quotes you show are misleading, they are poorly worded. Show
atm map shows dynamic as well as static mappings.
Here are two routers, R5 and R6 connected together by an ATM switch
This is their configuration
!
interface ATM2/0
ip address 1.1.1.5 255.255.255.0
no atm ilmi-keepalive
atm ilmi-pvc-discovery
pvc 0/16 ilmi
!
R6
!
interface ATM2/0
ip address 1.1.1.6 255.255.255.0
no atm ilmi-keepalive
atm ilmi-pvc-discovery
pvc 0/16 ilmi
!
On R5 I see the following PVCs
R5(config-if-atm-vc)#do sho atm vc
VCD / Peak Avg/Min
Burst
Interface Name VPI VCI Type Encaps SC Kbps Kbps
Cells Sts
2/0 1 0 16 PVC ILMI UBR 155000
UP
2/0 2 0 100 PVC-D SNAP UBR 155000
UP
2/0 3 0 300 PVC-D SNAP UBR 155000
UP
R5(config-if-atm-vc)#
On R6 the following
R6(config-if-atm-vc)#do sho atm pvc
VCD / Peak Avg/Min
Burst
Interface Name VPI VCI Type Encaps SC Kbps Kbps
Cells Sts
2/0 1 0 16 PVC ILMI UBR 155000
UP
2/0 2 0 200 PVC-D SNAP UBR 155000
UP
2/0 3 0 400 PVC-D SNAP UBR 155000
UP
Now without any static mappings, I get the following
R5(config-if-atm-vc)#do sho atm map
Map list ATM2/0_ATM_INARP : DYNAMIC
ip 1.1.1.6 maps to VC 3, VPI 0, VCI 300, ATM2/0
R6(config-if-atm-vc)#do sho atm map
Map list ATM2/0_ATM_INARP : DYNAMIC
ip 1.1.1.5 maps to VC 3, VPI 0, VCI 400, ATM2/0

Hi, Chris:
Thanks for reply. Based on the CDDOC, the command "show atm map" seems
do not provide the INARP infomation ("dynamic") definitely, right?
Meanwhile, the command "show frame-relay map" does by the "dynamic" and
"static" flags.
<quote>
show atm map
To show the list of all configured ATM static maps to remote hosts on an
ATM network and on ATM bundle maps, use the show atm map privileged EXEC
command.
</quote>
<quote>
The show frame-relay map command displays the word "dynamic" to flag
virtual circuits that are created dynamically by Inverse ARP.
</quote>

Run debug atm arp with and without the static mapping, iwthout the
static mappingn you will see entries in the log or console output for
ATM ARP, with the static mapping you will see they no longer appear.

Dillon,
I presume you are referring to the line
InARP frequency: 15 minutes(s)
In the show vc output to indicate inARP is not turned off. This is
actually a misleading display. If you turn on debug atm arp you will see
inarp generated when there is no static mapping, and they will stop when
the static mapping is configured. There was a conversation on this alias
a couple of weeks ago on this.

Subject: ATM InARP
Hi, group:
I use the static map "protocol ip 192.40.100.10 b", but the InARP is
still active. Why?
<quote>
protocol (ATM)
To configure a static map for an ATM permanent virtual circuit (PVC),
switched virtual circuit (SVC), or VC class or to enable Inverse Address
Resolution Protocol (ARP) or Inverse ARP broadcasts on an ATM PVC, use
the protocol command in the appropriate command mode. To remove a static
map or disable Inverse ARP, use the no form of this command.
Configures a static map for an ATM PVC, SVC, VC class, or VC bundle.
Enables Inverse ARP or Inverse ARP broadcasts on an ATM PVC by either
configuring Inverse ARP directly on the PVC, on the VC bundle, or in a
VC class (applies to IP and IPX protocols only).
