This feature is used to employ traffic engineering based on the
origination of longer prefixes from an aggregate network. For example
suppose that you are learning the network 10.0.0.0/8 from a downstream
neighbor. Based on this you inject the 10.0.0.0/9 and 10.128.0.0/9
networks. For other BGP neighbors you can now influence traffic flow
for subsets of the 10.0.0.0/8 network by using these subnet
originations.
