You can ask for extra paper at the very beginning. I always do this so I
don't have to interrupt my train of thought (however Amtrak-like it may be)
in order to go find something to write on!

When I was at RTP last week, we were not allowed to use our own
pens/pencils. However, we did get 2 sheets of scratch paper, with a promise
of more if we needed it. At San Jose, you can use your own pens, but they
start you out with a single piece of paper.

When I took the lab in RTP in December you where not allowed to use any
writing pencils or pens that you brought. You had to leave them with the
proctor before being seated.
