Hello David,

The 26 process limit actually came from the 32 routing context limit on the
Cisco Routers. With MPLS VPN configured, one is required each for Static,
Connected, BGP and a IGP for the core.

Before, each MPLS VPN requires a routing context. This means that you might
not have more than about 26 ospf processes running on the router (a major
scalability issue).

With recent IOS releases, this restriction has been removed, and the router
now can support unlimited number of processes (practically, between 300 to
10,000, depending on the platform, application etc). Each VRF though can not
have more than 32 OPSF processes.

Zahid,
There is a hard limit for the number of OSPF processes on a PE router.
You'll need to look at the Release Notes to see when this was lifted on a
per platform basis. The 12K use to have a 26 process limit.
