Josh,

I agree with your comments. Renting rack time has always been a better option for me as it took much of the equipment and configuration hassles out of the way of my quest to getting my number.

I have been using gigavelocity primarily and even though they have some cross referencing for their rack the setup time is minimal to get started. I'm so used to it I really don't think of it as an issue. When starting a scenario and getting the L2 stuff set up the rest is as easy as a cut and paste of the configuration. I can't say enought about gigavelocity and how great they are to work with. I also agree that IE's racks and Bill's racks at racktimerentals are good too. All three companies definately have their act together. I can't say that about anyone else. Getting the timelsot of your choice is usually the most challenging - usually for a reason!

Just wanted to add my $.02 from my rental experience as JC @ gigavelocity hasn't been mentioned anywhere and Brian from IE led me to both racktimerentals and gigavelocity as an option due to their racks being full all of the time.

Unless you are setting up voice or something...I would just rent, it's very
competitive out there. Depending on how much you want to practice and how
long you study AND how much money you have. I think it's definitely in favor
of rentals. I could afford a rack or two of equipment...but the electricity,
electrical, etc..I would rather the vendor deal with this stuff and pay them
a nominal fee to do it. In fact, I got rid of all my racks of equipment with
exception of a few things and decided to rent. It's easier that way.

I only have issues with getting the times I want skeduled...so I book well
ahead of time, takes planning but it can be done. I recommend Either
Racktime Rentals or Internetworkexpert racks. I've had great success with
both.

One thing you should look at when renting with a vendor...Is how long it
takes you after you log in to begin getting to work on the scenario. If you
have waste an hour reconfiguring the rack or mapping ports, etc...to work
with the scenario you'll be there all day. The goal of practicing isnt to
see how long it takes for your patience to wear thin, it's to get quality
practice time configuring the scenario. Make sure you get someone who is 100
PERCENT compatible with your scenario or you'll lose out on the learning
experience. I've been through several different vendors, I'll only use the
two noted above from now on for those purposes.

josh
