There is a slight *variance* on the DocCD in regards to CEF being enabled w/
rate-limit...

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/fswtc
h_r/xrfscmd4.htm#wp1065878
The link above (IOS Switching Services) does not mention anything about CEF
being required.

However, The link below (QoS guide) clearly states: "CAR and DCAR can be
configured on an interface or subinterface. However, CAR and DCAR are not
supported on the Fast EtherChannel, tunnel, or PRI interfaces, nor on any
interface that does not support Cisco Express Forwarding (CEF). CEF must be
enabled on the interface before you configure CAR or DCAR."
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/fqos_
r/qrfcmd8.htm

As above so not below?

Neither one of these include 'ip cef' in the examples;
It's almost like they expect us to actually read this stuff :)

On the other hand, different fingers, I always configure CEF unless explicitly
told otherwise.

Hi Sheikh,

Did the question specifically stated that you cannot configure CEF and
specifically stated you must use CAR for traffic policing ?

Strange, as according to CCO, CAR is not supported on interfaces that
does not support CEF.

    Sheikh,

    You have policed the interface but you have chosen CB and not
CAR. CAR is
    configured using the rate-limit command on the interface. It
depends how the
    question was phased but if it specified CAR, then I would have
gone for
    rate-limit.

    Hi There,

    Can any one please help regarding this config as I have received
0% in
    qos. Question was about configuring CAR with below senario, I
don't know
    what I have done wrong here. You help will be highly
appreciated.

    Think of a Scenario, where all ftp traffic has 3Mb and 150 kps
burst
    and 200 kbps is total burst

    All other traffic 2mb 300kbps burst and 400 total burst.

    Following is my config.

    class-map ftp
    match access-group 101 - --- CEF wasn't allowed to configure

    Police-map ftp
    class ftp
    police police 3000000 18750 6250
    class class-default
    police 2000000 37500 12500

    int s0/0
    service-policy output ftp

    access-list 101 per tcp any any eq ftp
    access-list 101 per tcp any any eq ftp-data

    Is above configuration right?

    Thanks in advance

    Haf
