Oh wow. Just totally wow. This is the best high. :) Passed my second lab attempt in Sydney today. Got the email under two hours after leaving Cisco.
Thanks and shouts to:
- The Brians. The IEWB is a great resource.
- CertificationZone. Very concise tutorials on CCIE topics and great
starting points for studying a topic in depth.
- Marc vH. Thanks for the inspiration.
- Greenday, Jimmy Eat World and Bowling For Soup. Punk rock is the only
way to study. :)
Suggestions for people going through this:
- Fail it once - this will ensure you're calm and know how to focus the
second time.
- Focus on the core stuff. Frame, switching, IGP, ISDN make up around
*half* of your points. While DLSW or 802.1x may be unknowns, don't spend
all your time fixing niggly configs.
- On the flipside, ensure you complete *everything*. Re-read every
question. Make sure you don't miss a single sentence within a question.
Once you've finished, go through the labbook again, reading all your
configs. I found many typos and logic flaws on this second run.
- Talk to the proctor. The questions are written by somebody who's first
language isn't English, and they can be a bit difficult to understand
without some clarification.
- Cisco aren't kidding when they say bring a jacket. Its not an office
environment, its a computer room with desks in it. I'm going to be
sniffly for a few days because I just wore a Tshirt (but I don't care!
Yay CCIE!).
Rgds,
- I.
