John,

It's much simpler than all that.

you got a rtr -your HA - with 2 interfaces: s0/0 and e0/0 and you use
137.1.x.x/24 as your network addressing scheme.

This rtr happens to be running (take your pick, eigrp, ospf, rip, isis,
and/or bgp).

Now, you don't want your pc's attached to the ethernet ethernet int to have
the same subnet as the MN's.

So, all your MN get ip addresses out of 12.0.0.0 - your virtual network.

Now, how will pkts know where 12.0.0.0 is? Well, you redist this into your
IGP or BGP.

How will the MN know what their ip address is? You can use DHCP. And, the
MN must also be configured with the address of their HA. This can probably
also be done via DHCP but I'm just guessing about that.

So, all you do is create the virtual network and redist into your routing
protocol. Then you allocate ip addresses from this network to your MN's.

Bingo, you're done (with this part of it).

Last Saturday, I posted a detailed write-up on Mobile IP. Read it. I think
it will help you more fully understand this technology. I also strongly
recommend the Cisco Press book on the topic. It's how I learned what little
I know about this.

HTH, Tim

ok, so the virtual-metwork is the pseudo-network that would be assigned to
the MN on the HA side, or, it is the local-address assigned to the
MN...................but, is this allocated from internal address space or
external address space? does the virtual network need to be a routable ip
address? if a client wanted to send an email from pda to pda, how would
they know what address to send to? hmmm......perhaps there is a nat'ing
feature involved in with the virtual-networks.
