From an Ethereal capture, a DNS query from a client to a server goes
like this:

Client Query (src port random UDP > 1023) --> Server (dest port UDP 53)
Server Reply (src port UDP 53) --> Client (dest port UDP of originating
request)

So, you are correct.

Subject: DNS

Hi,
do you know the exact exchange of message between a client and a server
DNS?
I mean if I have a DNS client in my network I will see outgress packets
with
port 53 in destination field ( port > 1024 in source field ) and ingress
packets with port 53 in source field and port 1024 in destination field.
Is it correct?
Many thanks
