I've used it before while working on a lab a while ago. From what I
recall it passes whatever metric the route originally had into RIP. An
OSPF route with a metric of 1500 would be passed as such into RIP making
it invalid due to the hop count. I didn't research it further but it
seemed plausible at the time.

Subject: redist ospf 1 metric transparent

Hi guys,

I can't find this redist option - transparent - documented under any IOS
release - I checked 12., 12.2, 12.3 and 12.4

Anyone know what this is used for?

R3(config-router)#router rip

R3(config-router)#redist os 1 metri ?
  <0-16> Default metric
  transparent Transparently redistribute metric <====

I looked for this transparent option when doing other types of redist
but it
seems this option is specific to redist ospf routes into rip.

If someone can explain when to use this option and maybe give an
example, I
would be very grateful.

TIA, Tim
