Have you had a look at Alex Zinin's book "Cisco IP Routing"? It goes into
excellent detail on OSPF. He discusses broadcast and nonbroadcast modes on
NBMA on page 450. In the broadcast modes, the interface receives a single
copy of hello or update packets, and the data link layer is responsible for
replicating it to all PVCs. In nonbroadcast mode neighbors are known by layer
3 addresses, and separate packets are generate for each above layer 2.
Zinin's book gets nowhere near the attention it deserves! ISBN:
