Manu,

The reason you never had to deal with flowcontrol when doing QoS on the 3550
is that, by default, it's off. Double check me by looking the command up in
the command reference. (It may only be partially off).

So, the real issue with flowcontrol is NOT when do you have to turn it off,
but when do you have to turn it on.

If you were the proctor writing the lab, how would you would a task such
that the flowcontrol command would need to be used?

HTH, Tim

Subject: 3550 QoS

Hi group,

Just gone through the 3550-configuration guide on DOCcd.In
the "Configuring QoS" chapter and under the section "Configuring Standard
QoS"
they have told that

"You must disable the IEEE 802.3X flowcontrol on all
ports before enabling QoS on the switch. To
disable it, use the "flowcontrol
receive off" and "flowcontrol send off" interface configuration commands."
Before this I have never given this command before giving "mls qos"
command.I
haven't seen any refernce to this in any of the other books I have
referred. So is it neccesary to turn off the flowcontrol before enabling QoS
?
If yes, Why? Thanks in advance.

Manu
