Actually, DRP (Director Response Protocol) works with a LocalDirector or
DistributedDirector. WCCP (Web Cache Control Protocol) works with a
CacheEngine.
DRP is more about specialized routing decisions. The Director will obtain
routing metrics from many routers in order to facilitate traffic balancing
throughout a network.
WCCP is more about fast response, or caching of pages for web services. It
can also be used as a proxy server.
For either of these things, your exposure to them on the lab is minimal. By
that, I mean that there is no LocalDirector, DistributedDirector or
CacheEngine actually present for you to configure. So your only exposure
would be making the router "capable" of talking to these devices. We're
talking 2-3 commands max, and really simple things.
So if you're asked about them, configure them! But don't stress out about
it, just know where to locate these types of things (falling into the
category of Miscellaneous Stuff Nobody Knows About) on the DocCD. Remember
that being an expert isn't just about memorized capabilities. It's about
being able to apply base knowledge and also being able to look things up
that you don't know about while working in a pressured situation.
Best of luck!
Scott

Subject: DRP, CacheEngine, WCCP, LocalDirector
Hi, Group:
Can anybody explain the difference of DRP, CacheEngine, WCCP,
LocalDirector? I'm confused with them.
Based on my view, they are all be used in WWW service. But I can say nothing
if I am asked to put a pertaining service of them into a certain situation.
TIA
