Hi, Felipe:
Thanks for your experience.
I also spent about one year on studying from CCNA to CCIE. Though I worked 10 hours per day on lab, I'v failed twice. I think I made a mistake that I focused on CCNP's materials about 4 months for a solid base, its a long time when I had obtained few progresses. These books are not systemic and have a lot of repeated ambiguous concepts. Then I spent 3 months on CDDOC that is not systemic again, in which I even could not find the definiens of "fancy queueing" that is the keyword in the blueprint. The same concept is repeated in IOS12.2, in IOS12.3 or in document of 3550, I can not go through the all concepts systemically, even its command reference is not so completely useful. You are right, the book "Routing TCP/IP V1&V2" and "CCIE Practical Studies V1&V2" are perfect that crown all over the CCNP books. So it would has been a different situation, if I had spent the wasted 7 months on the Cisco Press books.
Now I'm confused whether is it necessary to devote myself to a workbook.
   Any advice?

At the beginning I basically used two books for theory: I and II (however only BGP is studied in depth on these books). After this I started the hands-on study. Firstly I worked on Cisco Labgear labs and then I used IE workbooks.

I worked with a check list for every topic, and those that I configured but was not confident I worked on them again at the end of the day too.
