Often times, examples will show the 'bgp confederation peers' command with
all the SubASes in the confederation listed, but it is not required. You
really only need to have the peers listed that you are peering to directly.
Basically, the command 'bgp confederation peers 3' is telling the router
'when you establish the peering to 3, he is really part of our
confederation'.

Importance: Low

This might seem like a basic question, but I haven't seen a clear answer
yet:

Let's say that I have three routers R1, R2 and R3, all in AS123, and:

- R1 peers with R2
- R1 peers with R3

R1 is part of confederation AS1
R2 is part of confederation AS2
R3 is part of confederation AS3

Question:

Since R2 does not peer with R3, do I need to specify the following commands:
- "bgp confederation peer 3" on R2
- "bgp confederation peer 2" on R3

or would be enough to mention only "bgp confederation peer 1" on both R2 and

R3 ?

Obviously the two commands mentioned above would be configured on R1.

Thank you
