Let's assume I wanted to allow a non-IGMP capable host, connected to a 3550,
to recieve a multicast stream. Along with an igmp join/static command on the
router's LAN interface, would I need to create a static igmp snooping host
statement ("ip igmp snooping vlan <VLAN-ID> static <mac> interface
<Interface>") on the 3550 that connects the host to the router? I think it
may be necessary if other hosts on the vlan were IGMP capable since there
would only be igmp entries for those hosts. What about a VLAN with only
non-igmp hosts, would the switch just drop all incoming multicast traffic
from the router or would it flood the multicast traffic to all ports, as if
IGMP snooping wasn't enabled. I would think it would flood the multicast
traffic. Any thoughts/comments? And yes, I know I could always disable igmp
snooping for that VLAN to make sure it's not an issue.
Thanks,
DAve
