Yes a reboot is needed once you delete the vlan.dat file. If you just want
to delete the vlans without having to reboot you can go into config mode and
type "del vlan 2-999". That would not change the other configuration items
that the vlan.dat file contains such as vtp mode, etc. If you want those
gone as well as the vlans then just delete the vlan.dat and reboot.

If there is an existing Vlan.dat file on 3550 switches referring to the VLAN
database, do I need to reboot the switch to clear it after deleting the
