Hi guys,

This is the output of the show terminal command:
Notice that there are some references to "session".

I'm trying to understand what that's all about.

Rack1R1#sh term
Line 0, Location: "", Type: ""
Length: 24 lines, Width: 80 columns
Baud rate (TX/RX) is 9600/9600, no parity, 2 stopbits, 8 databits
Status: PSI Enabled, Ready, Active, Automore On
Capabilities: none
Modem state: Ready
Modem hardware state: CTS* noDSR DTR RTS
Special Chars: Escape Hold Stop Start Disconnect Activation
                ^^x none - - none
Timeouts: Idle EXEC Idle Session Modem Answer Session Dispatch
                       never never none
not set
                                       Idle Session Disconnect Warning
                                         never
                                     Login-sequence User Response
                                           00:00:30
                                    Autoselect Initial Wait
                                       not set

I also noticed that there are several commands that can be used with regard to
sessions.

For example,

Rack1R1(config)#line con 0
Rack1R1(config-line)#session?
session-disconnect-warning session-limit session-timeout

What I don't understand is what does "session" mean in the context of the
console line?

Does this mean there can be multiple sessions to the console line? Is that
possible? How?

Why, for example, is a session-timeout command needed when there's already an
exec-timeout command?

Can someone explain the logic behind this?

Thanks in advance, Tim
