Hi everyone,

I feel compelled to join in this debate. :-)

According to the Internet number registries, 127.0.0.0/8 is reserved for loopback addresses. However, MS uses 127.0.0.1 as the loopback address on all its systems. Just log on to a few disparate Windows PCs and check their routing tables (route print at the command prompt) to see for yourself. The routing table shows 127.0.0.1 as the gateway to the entire loopback network and the "real" local IP address of the machine.

If Cisco wants MS's loopback address, it is 127.0.0.1. If they want the reserved loopback net, it is 127.0.0.0/8.

Regards,
Ade
