Hi Henk,
Thanks for the reponse.
I managed to figure it out in the end with some help from one of the cisco
guys on the discussion forum.
Firstly I believe the vlans need to be in the database for the config to
show the problem.
Because of the default behaviour of PVST once the vlans have been built even
though you configure mstp the switch still assumes that you cant have more
than 128 vlans per spanning instance
To inform the switch config otherwise "spanning-tree vlan 1-1000" removes
all of the "no spanning-tree vlan 128" et al from the running-configuration
This was with firmware c3550-i5q3l2-mz.121-19.EA1c so its a possible feature
or even more probable perhaps I configured something in the wrong order:-)

Hi Robin,
I've done a copy and paste of you config in the switch in a 3750. Everything
seems to be normal. I don't get the "no spanning-tree vlan XXX" command in
global config mode. I'm using IOS c3750-i5-mz.121-19.EA1d.bin on the
switches,
Regards,
henk

Question on MST on 3550s
Whilst setting up mst to overcome the 128 stp limitations for a Lab I
noticed that every vlan from 128 - to say 1000 shows up in the
running-config as "no spanning-tree vlan XXX"
Ive tested the mst by mapping vlan 1-1000 to instance 1 and can see from the
output that vlan 200 for example is participating in mst correctly and gig
0/1 is blocking so am a bit confused as to why the running-config would lead
me to believe other wise.
Answers on a postcard please:-)
Config example
spanning-tree mode mst
spanning-tree extend system-id
no spanning-tree vlan 129
no spanning-tree vlan 130
no spanning-tree vlan 200
etc etc
spanning-tree mst configuration
name XXX
revision 1
instance 1 vlan 1-1000
VLAN example
Switch#sh spanning-tree vlan 200
MST01
