How to verify Multicast Ping ?

How do I verify multicast ping, in a sparse-mode and a sparse-dense-mode network.
For example if in a network of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 routers running sparse-mode, and
R3 is an RP. I configure a igmp join-group R2. What should I expect when i ping from
all other routers ?

Similary what should I expect when in sparse-dense-mode ? Any links also would be great
