The numbers are over 14,000...
The number started at 1024 (hence only 13,000 "actual" people)
There are over 1,200 inactive CCIEs which will not be part of the total
count. (bringing us down to 11,800 or so)
And of course it depends on when those stats were created versus the current
number today. But they're roughly inline!

Why are we up to CCIE number 14,000+ but the Cisco.com site shows the total
number of CCIE's to be 11,745 (last updated 11.1.2004). Has the number
jumped 3000 CCIEs in the last month or did 3000 CCIEs let their cert expire?
