RE: port fast on a switch

Funny enough the switch takes the command, though it doesn't really seem
to make any sense. At least it doesn't enable portfast for any of the
vlan 1 physical interfaces.
Considering that a VLAN interface is an internal software interface
inside the switch I don't really see what use it would be to have
spanning tree on it.

See the following output:

S5(config)#int vlan 1
S5(config-if)#spanning-tree portfast
%Warning: portfast should only be enabled on ports connected to a single
host. Connecting hubs, concentrators, switches, bridges, etc... to this
interface when portfast is enabled, can cause temporary bridging
loops.
 Use with CAUTION

%Portfast has been configured on Vlan1 but will only
have effect when the interface is in a non-trunking mode.
S5(config-if)#^Z
S5#

S5#sh spanning-tree int vlan 1
no spanning tree info available for Vlan1

S5#sh spanning-tree int fa 0/7 portfast

Spanning-tree portfast should be configured on the physical port itself.

I have not tried to put it on the vlan interface. Is it even an option?
I
do not have access to a switch at the moment.

Hi Group,

If the question ask to enable portfast on vlan 2 interfaces(fa 0/2 and
fa
/4) , the command spanning-tree portfast should be given on physical
interfaces or vlan 2 logical interface.
