Elliot,
The reason is so that the requirements of task 5.10 can be fulfilled.
In that task, area 1 must be some type of stub area in order to not allow
any inter-area or external routes.
One of the rules of virtual-links is that they are not allowed to transit
any type of stub area.
A gre tunnel doesn't have that restriction.
