I agree with you. Functionally, it seems to be the same as HSRP. I suspect
that if VRRP is what the lab wants, you should see something about using a
standardized method of router fault tolerance.
BTW, there's a new feature, Enhanced Object Tracking, that can be used with
hsrp, vrrp and maybe glbp (I forget). But if cisco is going to throw a curve
when it comes to this, I suspect this is the curve. It's not conceptually
difficult to understand, but using the commands didn't seem intuitive to me.
At least, not intuitive enough that you can figure out what to do in 5
minutes during the lab just from scanning the Doc-CD. However, if you've
already fully understand the concept, you should probably be in decent shape
if you need to use this feature.
