Hey Jimmy,

That's a very, very difficult question to answer. It really depends on
you - what you need, how you learn, how much time there is between now and
your lab and what you can afford in both time and money.

Would you be better served by taking a class where it's mostly lecture with
a bit of hands-on or do you need more hands-on practice?

Are you equally strong in all the core topics or are there some particular
topics where you can use some beefing up?

Do you know which topics you're strong in and which ones you're weak in?

Depending on the answes to these questions, there are some very good choices
available to you.

For example, if you're not that sure where you would best allocate your
efforts, than the best thing for you would be to take a couple of mock labs
so you can pinpoint where you need to focus your efforts. A number of
vendors offer mock labs which would give you a very good sense of where you
need to brush up. I'm personal familiar with the mock labs offered by IE,
Internetwork Expert. Those are exceptionally good in that overall they are
very comparable to the real lab in level of difficulty and topics covered.

If you take a IE mock lab, you'll get a detailed written assessment the
following day along with your score report. However, you need to be aware
of the caveat with mock labs. The result of your mock lab is just an
indication, not a predictor, of how you'll do on the real lab. All mock
labs sample your knowledge of specific things across the range of topics
covered by the real lab. For example, let's say you get a 100% on the Frame
Relay section of a mock lab. That only means you knew how to do the
specific Frame Relay tasks that were in that particular mock lab. It
doesn't mean you know how to do every possible variation of Frame Relay.
And, it doesn't mean you'll get 100% on the Frame Relay section of the real
lab.

On the other hand, if you take several mock labs and consistently score over
80 points, it's highly likely you'll pass the real lab.

Now, let's assume you're overall pretty strong in all the topics covered in
the lab and you've done plenty of practice labs. But, what you want is
good, comprehensive review of all the core topics. In this case, maybe you
should consider a one week boot camp. Again, a number of vendors offer such
a course and again I'm personally familiar with the bootcamp offerred by IE.
It's fantastic. While it doesn't cover every lab topic in detail - and no
one week bootcamp can - it does cover all the core topics. And, in addition
it gives you a way to think about and approach the real lab ie valuable
strategies you can use to insure that your result is as good as it can be
giving your knowledge and skill.

Now, if waht you really need is more hands-on practice, another alternative
is also available from IE. One week of mock labs. In this course, each day
you'll do a full mock lab. And, the next day, there's a couple of hours of
discussion of the lab where certain issues and topics are highlighted and
you get to ask questions about those things you weren't clear about.

So, as you can see there's no right answer to your question but there are a
number of good options available to you.

HTH, Tim
