Point-to-multipoint (dial) ISDN does not require SPIDs from what I
remember; since it is exceedingly rare to use PtP ISDN _anywhere_ in
this day and age, I couched my response accordingly. You are 100%
correct, though. I have never personally used or see a PtP ISDN circuit,
but I've spoken to old-school Bell techs who have. Also, there is
AutoSPID, but I've never used it.
A couple of useful links for those that haven't had the pleasure of
slamming your head in the car door that is widespread ISDN deployment:
http://yarchive.net/phone/isdn_spids.html - Helpful breakdowns, one of
the most useful articles/posts I ever read.
http://support.intel.com/support/isdn/SPID_Tip.htm - a fairly
comprehensive listing of SPID formats/types by Bell region (applicable
to NA only)
