Hey John,

As you noted, with passive, an ospf adjacency can't be formed with a
neighbor.

In other words, no lsa's will be sent or received via the passive interface.

However, with the filter database command, ospf will form an adjacency.

In other words, that interface is all take and no give (when it comes to
lsa's).

Off-hand, I can't think of a practical application for database filtering,
but as we all know, the lab is NOT a test of real world or best design
networking. Maybe, someone on GS can provide a real world example of when
using databases filtering would solve a real world problem.
