RE: Multicast - Simulating Large-Scale Deployments

I would tend to think Symantec Ghost is one of the leading suites, and
well-known, for what you are demonstrating.

Altiris RapiDeploy is another product that uses multicast for imaging.
They offer a free eval
(http://www.codework.com/rapideploy/evaluation.html ).

Hey Andy,

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately the audience I am targeting is
more business-oriented than technical-oriented and will not understand
multicasting technology without a practical implementation. What I am
trying to do is show my audience that workstation deployments can be
deployed in great quantities in minimal time with multicast technologies
which exist in just about all of Cisco's product lines. My fear is that
I need to show by example by using applications that are used in large
enterprises, and Symantec Ghost is the only one that comes to mind, but
I'm sure there are many more.

Thanks again!

Keith,
Cisco's IPTV is way cool.... They have both a Hardware based one and
software only to install on your servers ... They may have a demo to
just
download , and install , the only benefit I know of that the hardware
combination provides is they come with external mpeg encoders to hook
external vcr and cameras etc on.... But it is great for multicast
testing ,
I have played with it in office and is very easy to set up..

Subject: Multicast - Simulating Large-Scale Deployments

Hey Everyone,

I'm planning to run a demonstration on how multicast can efficiently be
used to deploy thousands of software images across an enterprise
(simulating tens of thousands of PCs). I plan to demonstrate the
differences between PIM SM and PIM DM along with DVMRP and others
(hopefully).

I know one of the largest simulation applications for this would be
Symantec Ghost, but I'm not sure if this product is intended for the
largest-scale deployments. Are there any others that you use or know of
to deploy loadsets to many PCs through a multicasting application?
While I know the multicast technology does not differ from product to
product, I want the simulation to be as "real-world" for my audience as
possible. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
