dlsw with ethernet redundancy

Hi guys,

In this example, (see this link)

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/fibm_
c/bcfpart2/bcfdlsw.htm#wp1004635

3 different routers can access the workstation shown via ethernet. My
assumption is that there's an ethernet switch (not shown) connecting the
workstation to the routers.

In the next example (see this link)

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/fibm_
c/bcfpart2/bcfdlsw.htm#wp1004677

they show an actual ethernet switch connecting the workstations to the routers
and the router config are slightly different.

I'm confused. I don't understand why in the first example they don't have the
extra configuration commands they have in the second example. Is my
assumption about the first example wrong and they don't need the extra
commands shown in the second example because there's no ethernet switch
connecting the workstation to the routers?

Also, is the first example possible in the lab?

It seems to me the first example isn't possible in the lab but the example is
possible but I'm interested in hearing the opinions of others.

TIA, Tim
