I agree. Where you are is not a big of deal but what you are and how you get there are big brothers.
My brother in law works for Cisco in VoIP B.U. for carrier. They were merged to the same B.U. w/ old Celsius - forgive me if I spell this incorrect -R&D group (now Cisco VoIP enterprise solution B.U.) which has a whole bunch of PhD., Master, MBA, B.S. degree holders which they are the people made up Cisco VoIP product lines for enterprise.
He told me Cisco internally gave them CCIE VoIP test but only one out for hundreds R&D, Trial, Support Engineers passed the CCIE VoIP.
CCIE is just another of expert domain. CCIE folks do not know everything as well as neither PhD. and MS R&D engineers. They are just an expert of their domain.
