The firmware has been updated so you don't need to program the vlan's on
the phones these days. If your going to have pc's plugged into the
phones though just remember to make sure you configure it as a trunk
port.

There's actually some pretty decent config samples on this white paper
here to assist you with
The configs on the switches / routers for a number of scenario's.

Good Luck,

Elliott

Unless Avaya has recently changed the code on the phone, you will need
to make sure the config file that gets pulled also has the Voice VLAN
set.

Its been 6 months or so since I did it, but I believe we were using
7960's for the phones, and they wouldn't work without configuring the
Voice VLAN on the phone, as well as the tftp config file ( I don't
recall the name of the file ).

IIRC the voice VLAN config on the switch is just used for CDP, so you
shouldn't need to add it if your not going to be using Cisco phones.

Subject: OT:Avaya /Cisco Question

Hi everyone, i was looking for a little OT help. I am connecting Avaya
Handsets to Cisco 3750 switch. I know that when you configure
Voice-vlan, cisco phones and switches use CDP to negotiate. SO in the
case of Avaya, there is no CDP, it must be configured on the handset. So
do i still need Voice-vlan command on my switch? Any input would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
