Hi Brian,

Thanks for the good URL. I did few tests with only two routers, according to doc, you have to enter the command second time with classfull network for router to install as a candidate default route and to advertise to other routers in the rip domain. I am attaching my findings for other members. Brian when I tried to give -if)#ip summary-address rip 150.10.0.0 255.255.0.0, on the other router I can see both summarized route as well as individual routes, is it default behavior, if you can point to good url for rip manual summarization that would be great.

thanks

Subject: few questions about RIP

Hi Group,

I can't find good doucments about manual summarization of rip. Assume
you have 10.1.0.0/16 and 10.2.0.0/16 network on a router running rip v
2. We know if you leave with auto summary(default), these two networks
are summarized to 10.0.0.0/8, Guy's where the manual summarization is
coming in to picture. Please provide good urls for this.

The doc cd says to advertise a default route in rip, you have to
configure defalt-information originate command or ip default-network
command. How the ip default-network command is used. Do you have to
specifiy a network in the routing table as a default network. Will this
route will propagate as a default route(0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0) to other
routers in the rip domain. Can you give more than one default-network
command in the router. When I tried thie ip default-network command, the
command is converted by IOS as a static route in the running
configuration. Any comments or feedback is appreciated.

thanks

Mani
