Some IOS versons require Chap for ISDN to work?

Hi guys,

According to Cisco Press book, CCIE Routing & Switching Practice Labs, page
318, some versions of IOS require that chap be configured in order for the
isdn link to connect.

So far, I've never encountered this since working with IOS starting with IOS
ver 11.0

Has anybody come across this? If so, is this true for any recent versions of
IOS?
