If you run auto-rp you should either use sparse-dense mode or
enable ip pim auto-rp listener on your routers.

Subject: mroute woes - help!

i've got multicast running on my network...

r5----------------------------------r3---------------------------------r
1
(225.25.25.25)
                                     --
                                      --
                                      --
                                     --
                                     r4

r1 is running auto rp and r1 is the mapping agent
r5 is regestering autorp and is receiving rp updates
r3 is sending updates to both r5 and r4 but r4 is not receiving the
updates, but r4 can ping the multicast address 225.25.25.25 i checked
the rpf interface on r3 and r4 and they are both correct (both using the
appropriate inteface and i'm not getting any rpf failures in debug.
here is what i do get from r4 however:

*Mar 1 02:11:53.644: IP(0): s=150.1.3.3 (Serial0/0) d=224.0.1.39
id=28260, prot=17, len=52(48), mroute olist null r4(config)#ip mroute
150.1.3.3 225.255.255.255 164.1.34.3 r4(config)# *Mar 1 02:12:18.681:
MRT(0): Update (*,224.0.1.40), RPF /0.0.0.0

any ideas why r4 does not recieve the auto rp updates?? yes, all the
interfaces are set to sparse and there is connectivity between r3 and r4
at layer 2 and 3 (runnning isis)

thanks in advance!
