Thanks Scott! I had deduced that it was NOT the same as regular expressions, but the examples in the config guide on the Doc CD didn't make it quite clear that "?" and "*" were the only options. It's probably obvious, but it was also important (for me) to recognize that "*" matches on null or no character at all.
Of course I should have taken the next step and found this in the command Reference my self! ;-)
Exactly the "black and white" reference I was looking for.

Netbios stuff comes to us out of the old POSIX world. The valid wildcards
are "?" for a single character (which would be a period in regexp) or "*"
for any number of characters. Just like we used to type in DOS/Command
prompt days for "dir *.*" :)

Close though! Consistency would be far too simple! But on the other hand,
being that these things really come from different areas of legacy
technologies, each is actually consistent with their history!
