I'm guessing this is a T1 between the sites? If so, is/are the DSUs
internal to the routers, or external? If it's a full T1 between the
sites, there's a good chance that you are the one who should be
providing the clocking, rather than the provider. One of your DSUs
should be doing this.

Subject: protocol down
Hi All
I'm having a bit of a problem with a leased line between 2 sites. I
have configured the serail interface as below:
site 1
serial 0/0
ip add 192.168.12.254 255.255.255.252
encaps ppp
bandwidth 1024
no shut
site 2
serial 0/0
ip add 192.168.12.253 255.255.255.252
encaps ppp
bandwidth 1024
no shut
Yet with this config I'm getting protocol down. Just wanted to check if
I need to do anything else before I contact the service provider to test
the line? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
TIA
Mark
