If you're a typical candidate, you will need several attempts and a few
thousand dollars to pass. Think of your first attempt as a learning
experience.

If you pass, that's great, but it probably won't happen unless you have a
lot of industrial experience and have a lot of Cisco insights most lay
people don't have.

However, there are a few pointers I can give you, based on my personal
experience.

1. Be sure all your VLANs work, including those that include the backbone
routers, if there are any. You will waste time troubleshooting your routing
protocol behavior if you can't ping within your VLANs, especially to the
backbones, if any are on Ethernet segments. You can't rely on CDP, either,
since Cisco disables CDP on its backbones. (The proctor told me that.)

2. Get your frame circuits up quickly and do not use unnecessary commands
(like specifying the lmi-type).

3. Get as many points before lunch as you can, skipping things you will have
trouble with. Many of the 2- and 3-pointers only require the input of a
single command and do not depend on the success of your routing.

4. Stay relaxed. Often you'll pick up the book and say to yourself, "Jesus,
I'll never have time to do all this." You might be pleasantly surprised that
some of the things come to you very quickly.

5. Be nice to the proctors and don't be afraid to ask questions, as long as
you're not fishing. They are there to explain ambiguous exam requirements.

6. Make sure you understand the addressing you're given -- e.g.
192.168.xx.yy where "x" represents your pod and "y" represents your router.
If "x" is 5, and "y" is 2, is the address 192.168.5.2 or 192.168.55.22? This
may seem stupid, but the exam binder never seems to make that clear.
