service tcp-small-servers
To access minor TCP/IP services available from hosts on the network, use the
service tcp-small-servers command in global configuration mode. To disable
these services, use the no form of the command.

service tcp-small-servers

no service tcp-small-servers

Syntax Description
This command has no arguments or keywords.

Defaults
Disabled

Command Modes

 Release Modification

 This command was introduced.

Usage Guidelines
By default, the TCP servers for Echo, Discard, Chargen, and Daytime services
are disabled.

When the minor TCP/IP servers are disabled, access to the Echo, Discard,
Chargen, and Daytime ports cause the Cisco IOS software to send a TCP RESET
packet to the sender and discard the original incoming packet.

James

Subject: telnet security: chargen port

i'm doing a lab that states:

for security, disable the router feature which allows you to generate a
stream
of ASCII characters via a telnet session to the chargen port on R6

any ideas on what this might be? i looked at an extended access-l under
udp
and didn't see anything associated as such....i'm not even sure what a
chargen
port is.

thanks in advance!
