Richard,

 It is more a matter of your preference. If you are comfortable with qos
then do manual. Manual qos you have more control over your traffic. AUTO qos
will adjust these needed settings for you.

However you have your syntax wrong on the Auto qos setup. You only need to
enable auto qos under the interface it will enable mls global and change all
the variables for you.

Take a look at the QOS document. You cannot run both modes it is one or the
other.
