ppp chap hostname

Hello group,

This document http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/tech/tk713/tk507/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080094333.shtml

states that u have to adjust the router`s name under the dialer map statement to the alternate name when using ppp chap hostname, because `otherwise two B-channels are brought up, one for each direction`.

While i can understand this, i have configured it in the lab, and my dialer-map statement still uses the original
name, and no two calls are being made.

R2 has dialed R1:

R2#sh isdn active
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                ISDN ACTIVE CALLS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Call Calling Called Remote Seconds Seconds Seconds Charges
Type Number Number Name Used Left Idle Units/Currency
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Out ---N/A--- 470 R1 5 55 4 0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

R1 sees the remote username as the alternate name (R2R2):

R1#sh isdn active
-------------------------------------------------------------
                    ISDN ACTIVE CALLS
-------------------------------------------------------------
History Table MaxLength = 100 entries
History Retain Timer = 15 Minutes
-------------------------------------------------------------
Call Calling Called Duration Remote Time until
Type Number Number Seconds Name Disconnect
-------------------------------------------------------------
In 473 Active(49) R2R2 11
-------------------------------------------------------------

But when i ping R2, you could expect that R1 would dial another connection, since, if it verified
by name, it would say: `hey, i have to reach R2 and i only have a connection to R2R2, so DIAL...`
i think this is maent in the document.

R1 dialer map:
dialer map ip 150.50.12.2 name R2 broadcast 473

But when i ping R2, no extra connection is made.
Could it be that R1 and R2 are comparing the CALLING AND CALLER numbers to match connections ??
Then R1 would notice that it already has a connection to 473.....

How does this work exactly and who do i have to believe ??

Regards,
Geert
