RE: Broadcast

Hello Richard,

Frame Relay does forward broadcasts, but it transmits them as so called
pseudobroadcasts, making use of a special broadcast queue, which operates
independently of the normal interface queue. This queue is configurable, so
you might want to try and tune it. The syntax for the interface mode command
is:

frame-relay broadcast-queue size byte-rate packet-rate

where the configurable parameters are:

size --> should be 20 per DLCI (in your case, with 12 sites, set it to 240)
byte-rate --> N/4 times the minimum remote access rate (measured in bytes
per second), where N is the number of DLCIs to which the broadcast must be
replicated. This is according to the Cisco documentation. In your case, with
12 DLCIs and an assumed minimum access rate, in bytes per second, of 64000,
this value should be 32000
packet-rate --> set this to e.g. 200

Check if this makes a difference; obviously this solution is based on the
assumption that broadcast traffic is dropped because of a broadcast queue
that is not large enough...

Regards,

Georg
