It's still quite good, especially if you can combine this with a CCSP
(security).
There are still companies that really don't know the difference between a
CCxP and a CCIE. At least not the order of magnitude of knowledge that is
required for the CCIE compared to the CCxP.
Companies are often asking for people with years of cisco experience and
with a CCNA (!) certification. With the current economic crisis I guess they
know they can easily get a CCNP for the price of the CCNA this way......

Well, I know, but are you ever really absolutely certain that you will get
the CCIE ? I would still like to keep the CCxP up to date as long as I
wouldn't have the CCIE.

Does it actually matter? Surely once you have CCIE, no one cares if you
have CCNP or not?
A bit like if you have a PhD, who cares what your high school grades were?
