The definitive answer is - it depends. What are you're requirements?
What's your primary application?

I'd use the 7204 for edge routing. Because it's a router, it's better
at, well, routing. Better for most things you'd use a router for. Now,
if you want everything in the same layer 2 domain, the switch may be
better. But why use a 3550 when a 2950 would work just as well?

Think you'll ever need a backup link? The router wins again (IMHO).

Whichever you choose, you can send me the stuff you don't use. :-)
