I think you're over complicating this. The typical use/problem is that
OSPF does not have an area running between the two area zeros. Therefore
virtual link is not an option. A GRE can be setup without requiring an
additional IP address thus not causing any routing/redist issues. If it
were a layer two solution then the areas would not really be
discontiguous.

True.. But he is not allowed to use virtual link or GRE in this case...
I am not sure any other method u can do it..

May be any other tunnel mechanism can be used... Like L2tpv3...
But its a layer 2 tunnel...

Do not think any other options other than GRE or virtual-links.
Are you allowed to create more loopabck interfaces with new ip
addresses. ?
If so extend the area 0 everywhere throughout the non Area routers so
that
avoiding the discontiguous backbone :)
