Charles,
        Since you didn't mention it, just watch out on the 3548XL type of
boxes. You have to add the command "management" to vlan 20 in order to take
the management functionality away from vlan1. Shutting it down will not do
the job.

I have been having some problems with 3500 and 3550, vlans not being
recognized. I set an IP address on VLAN 20 of the 3500 which shuts vlan 1.
Is there a problem with having vlan 1 shut. I remember something along that
line but can't find it. Thanks.
