Eigrp - SP

Hi Group,

My understanding is S/Horizon is typically a Layer 2 aware concept which
works in a NBMA N/Ws to avoid possible loops and is quite independent of
Layer 3 functionality. Accordingly I was impression that SH is only
enabled by default on Sub interfaces and that is why in a typical HUB &
SPOKE topology, we need to disable SH so that one spoke can speak to
another. But on Physical ints , there is no issue because by default SH
is NOT enabled.
But recently I heard that Split horizon is ONLY disabled for RIP and
IGRP on a physical Frame Relay interface. EIGRP split horizon is ALWAYS
on by default.
Why so ? I was wondering among DV protocols of RIP, IGRP & EIGRP ( kind
of hybrid , but I tend to go with DV any way for this argument sake),
why only EIGRP needs SH to enable on both Physical & sub ints ? Is it
any way DUAL requires SH to behave like that ?
I appreciate any help in tighten my conceptual understanding.
Devi.
